I started out the project by reading through the Westlake City Hall meeting briefs when board members and community members sat down to talk about what we would do with the few vacant lots that we have in our growing city. They discussed a few lots and their plans to develop them, but left one specific plot labeled as an "undecided plan of action". Interestingly enough, after visiting the site and the surroundings, I discovered that this area was the perfect place for the park! I took a few pictures and managed to note some surroundings like a nursing home that borders the lot, 2 schools within a short walk, an apartment complex, and a few neighborhoods that all seem to converge right around the same point. With this in mind, I continued to look into the cities plans for developing the area around the potential pocket park and then began reading articles (including the two promoted by the opening page of this project) and took notes on the history, importance, and characteristics of pocket parks in order to design the best possible gathering place for my community.
